HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Video shows the moment a coyote attacked a toddler on Huntington Beach.
Officials say a little girl was bitten in the face during the coyote attack near the Huntington Beach Pier on Thursday night.
At around 9:45pm, a woman and her two children were on the beach, dipping their toes in the ocean just north of the pier, when the coyote arrived and attacked the young girl. She is believed to be between the ages of two and three.
She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, investigators from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Orange County Animal Services searched for the coyote which was seen running on the beach near the water.
Officials shot the coyote later in the evening — but despite being injured, the coyote managed to flee.
The injured coyote was discovered dead on the beach on Friday morning.
The toddler will be screened for rabies and will remain in the hospital for treatment.
